9 November

Dear reader,

I wish I could write more often. Sometimes, when fingers feverishly run through the keyboard amidst looming deadlines, the fabric of reality fissures, exposing the spaces of glistening beauty. Spaces that sit comfortably amidst the myriad of waves and fluctuations that comprise our quasi-digital landscapes where we meet each other with great irregularity, dear reader. I believe Jason Bahbak Mohaghegh often wanders into these perilous, but tempting lacunas where bodies dissolve into a haze of un-being. But while I am still holding the last drops of your attention span, dear reader, allow me to share a bit of the future.

The last public lecture of the year will be held by visual artist, producer and mentor Joey Holder who will introduce her practice as a form of ‘world-building’ with multiple access points for the work – through narrative, information, images, video and websites. The lecture will take place on 16 November at 19:00 at the Vilnius Academy of Arts Design and Innovation centre (Maironio st. 3), 112 auditorium. See more information about Joey and the other tutors here.

The 10th edition of the Alternative Education Programme is about to come to its magical conclusion at the end of November! We’ll invite our friends to join us at Lelija / Tech Zity Lilium for the The Gathering of Alternative Art Education taking place on 24–25 November. At the Gathering international speakers representing different approaches and methodologies will share their experiences with the current state and possible futures of education. Hopefully the gathering and subsequent events will be encouragement to explore alternative ways of knowledge sharing regardless of age, background or current occupations.

On the evening of the 25 November the Gathering of Alternative Art Education will grow into a celebration where we open the exhibition ‘Adero. The exhibition composed of the works by the participants of the 10th Edition of the Alternative Education Programme, developed over the summer and autumn of 2022, will be on show until 12 December. The afterparty will be held at the project space DSL – temporary explorative and collaborative project space housed in the sewing factory Lelija, which has been our main gathering place throughout the programme over these last few months. Join us for the euphoric end of the year ritual together with our old and new friends!

We are also most excited to welcome in 2023 a cohort of interdisciplinary artists, curators and writers as residents in Rupert, bringing in practices of moving image, architecture, performance, digital realms among many others – Fred Schmidt-Arenales and Monika Uchiyama, Graeme Arnfield, Marissa Lee Benedict and David Rueter, Saverio Cantoni, Åsa Cederqvist, Barnett A. Cohen, Teresa Cos, Crosslucid, Kandis Friesen, Eva Gold, Marc N. Hörler, Isabel Mallet, Sara Sassanelli, Emilia Tapprest, Pam Virada, Amy Watson, Evelyn Wh-ell. We are looking forward to continuing residency partnerships and also welcome artists Hanna Paniutsich, Nguyen Hong Ngoc and Olga Krykun in 2023.

While the temperatures as well as leaves in Vilnius are slowly falling, the participants of the 10th Edition of the Alternative Education Programme together with the curator Tautvydas Urbelis have taken their carrier bags ready for new stories and gone to visit acquaintances in Tallinn, Oslo and Berlin. In Tallinn the participants met Maarin Ektermann and Kai Art Center team. In Oslo the participants will meet like minded people at the Notam centre for technology, art and music, Fellesverkstedet platform, Atelier Nord and UKS. In Berlin the participants will be welcomed by HKW and Forecast platform representatives.

For the last two months of this year Rupert is also excited to host great artists at the residency programme: Agnė Jokšė, Ricki Dwyer, Saskia Fischer and Yassmin Abdel-Magied. We just waved farewell to Lviv artist Yaryna Shumska, meanwhile Elena Subach from Ukraine is staying here in November. Keep an eye on further announcements on opportunities to meet them!
