Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė

Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė is an artist, curator, and researcher whose work focuses on methodologies rooted in people’s history, feminist and queer ethnography, and theory. She has extensively studied labor history, particularly highlighting women’s work stories from the Soviet era and the 1990s in Lithuania. Recently, she co-curated the event series “Obscene West. Naglis” at the Kaunas Artists’ House, examining the cultural shifts related to sexualities during the tumultuous 1990s.
Agnė’s research explores the intersections of gender, labor, and memory within the post-Soviet space, addressing the complex dynamics arising from historical changes. As one of her methods of practice, she proposes a collaborative filmmaking process based on the concept of the Imaginary Archive, engaging artists, activists, and researchers to create a more inclusive narrative that revisits the postcolonial people’s experiences.
At her residency at Rupert, she plans to delve into the stories of former workers at Lelija, one of Lithuania’s most prominent garment factories, and to research the visual and social history of the costume designs produced there, uncovering how labor and aesthetics intersected in shaping everyday life under changing regimes.
Agnė Bagdžiūnaitė’s residency is also supported by an artist grant from the Lithuanian Council For Culture.
