Marta Finkelštein

Marta Finkelštein is a Vilnius-based performer and music curator whose work intertwines theoretical inquiry and artistic practice. Her research explores the evolving role of the curator within contemporary music, focusing on interdisciplinary collaboration and experimental sound. Central to her recent practice was her role as artistic director (2017–2023) of the contemporary music ensemble Synaesthesis, where she curated innovative sound projects in collaboration with instrumentalists, composers, and multidisciplinary artists.

A graduate of the University of Applied Sciences in Northern Switzerland with a specialization in music curating, Marta further deepened her academic contributions by earning an artistic doctorate in 2023 from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. Her thesis, Curating Music in Contemporaneity: Contexts, Lithuanian Scene, and Ensemble Synaesthesis, examines the intersections of curatorial strategies and the contemporary music landscape.

Recently, she has been focusing on solo piano projects as the sun will always rise and over the thousand moons, which reflect her interest in the reinterpretation and narration of the classical canon. She is also an active member of a performance duo with composer and sound artist Agnė Matulevičiūtė – a collaboration that they describe as as a love story between piano and synthesizers.
