Alice Bucknell
Alice Bucknell (UK/US) is an artist and writer based in London. Using tactics of speculative fiction and working primarily through game engines and worldbuilding strategies, her work challenges contemporary ideas of technological utopias and addresses architecture’s role in the climate crisis. She has presented her videos and writing internationally, with recent and upcoming exhibitions including the 2021 Venice Biennale, DA Z in Zurich, Ars Electronica with KÖNIG GALERIE, Epoch Gallery in Los Angeles, wildpalms in Dusseldorf, and White Cube in London. Her writing appears in publications including Flash Art, frieze, Mousse, PIN-UP, and the Architectural Review. She is a 2021 research fellow in the Goethe-Institut’s AI Residency Program at RIXC in Riga. She studied Visual Anthropology at the University of Chicago and Critical Practice at the Royal College of Art in London. At Rupert, she will develop New Mystics, a hybrid curatorial-editorial project that draws together the expanded practices of twelve artists fusing properties of mysticism, ritual, and magic with advanced technologies including artificial intelligence and machine learning. New Mystics will launch on the summer solstice 2021.
