Rupert Reading Session #18 Þórhildur Tinna Sigurðardóttir: Critical Caring – Activism, Equality and Aesthetics 

Rupert continues its monthly Reading Sessions! Every month, a member of Rupert’s team or an invited guest selects material to discuss. The reading sessions are open to anyone by registration. The 18th online reading session ‘Critical Caring – Activism, Equality and Aesthetics’ with the intention to generate a space for critical care and radical empathy will be held by Þórhildur Tinna Sigurðardóttir and will take place on 18 November 2022, 19:00 EET.

There will be a maximum of 30 slots for the reading session, selected on a first come first serve basis. Extracts from the texts and a Zoom link will be sent to registered participants.

About the Session

With the intention to generate a space for critical care and radical empathy, Þórhildur Tinna Sigurðardóttir invites the participants of this reading session to look together at some material on the themes of activism, equality and aesthetics. One of the key questions that Sigurðardóttir will invite to address in the subsequent discussion is if we can be self-reflexive and critical with each other to reveal the interdependencies and individual experiences of working in or engaging with the field of arts. This reading session is based on Sigurðardóttir’s ongoing research around curating, public programming and institutional critique.

Bio

Þórhildur Tinna Sigurðardóttir is an independent curator, writer and project manager. She has worked on productions of various size and scale, such as in her role as LungA Art Festival’s current Curator of Public Programs and leading Project Manager at Sequences ix Real-time Art Festival in 2019. Alongside being an active emerging cultural practitioner in Iceland since 2015, she has looked for inspiration and experience abroad. She previously held positions at Artzine, Reykjavík International Film Festival, The Living Art Museum, and The Icelandic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. She studied histoire de l’art at Université Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne and graduated with a BA. in Art Theory from the University of Iceland in 2019. Þórhildur has recently completed her MA. in Arts and Cultural Management at King’s College, London; where she focused on curatorship, public programming and radical museology. Her own research interests are in activism, postcolonial and queer theory.
