The exhibition and performance programme ‘ARITHMOPHILIA and the TECHNOLOGIES of DELUSION and RESONANCE’ celebrates Rupert’s move to the Naujamiestis district of Vilnius, at Mindaugo 15, bringing the art institution in closer contact with the city and its growing, active communities.

From 24 October until 1 November, the public are welcomed to visit the new facility, see the participating artists’ works, and join its programme of conversations, screenings, and studio visits with Rupert alumni.

To mark the occasion, Rupert invited former and future participants in its programmes to contribute physical and immaterial responses to the question: how do artists manage compounding personal and professional pressures—creative, political, economic, and social? How can we learn from their experiences? Arithmophilia—a love of numbers—references the unplanned effects of society’s uncritical devotion to data and finance. Several prominent international artists and groups like Meriem Bennani, Nolan Oswald Dennis, Toril Johannessen, Hanne Lippard, and Nuova Orfeo are presenting their work for the first time in Lithuania. Other participating artists like Donna Marcus Duke, Gosia Lehmann, and Ieva Rižė are recent alumni of Rupert’s programmes.

The programme and the accompanying publication, highlights the transformation of Rupert and its new address over the past year, with the contributions of architects Ona Lozuraitytė and Petras Išora, designers Jana Sofie Liebe and Augustinas Milkus, and the photographic documentation of Lukas Mykolaitis. The publication features several interviews with other initiatives admired by the Rupert team, including the School of Poetic Computation (New York), Weird Economies (Canada, the Netherlands, and online), and an essay by Toril Johannessen.
