This month, on 24 April, 19:00, we host the first Articulations event at our city center home, Mindaugo 15. Rupert invites you to meet artists Olena Newkryta and Juliana Lindenhofer, both residents until the end of May.

Olena Newkryta is a Ukrainian interdisciplinary artist and filmmaker based in Vienna who is currently researching cutting-edge technology in mental healthcare, such as fMRI brain visualisation, along with their sociopolitical and emotional implications. Her recent multi-part project 
This Aggregate of Images That Is the Universe studies the taxonomy of image compilation, our interaction with those archives, and the disruptive potential of human glitches in algorithmic systems. For this event, Olena will screen the film from that series, and connect it to her initial direction for her forthcoming Rupert commission.

Austrian artist Juliana Lindenhofer is continuously inspired by club cultures, as they offer space for misunderstandings, experimentation, and a model for her practice she calls ‘self-fashioning’. Lindenhofer sees her practices as a visual artist, writer, and DJ as a systematic simultaneity, not motivated by beauty but by contradictory material characteristics—transparency and tenacity, fluidity and intractability, fragility and permanence. Juliana will present a hybrid performance-lecture remixing music, video, images, and personal experience of the deeper layers nightlife can reveal.

After the presentations, the artists will discuss their research topics and collaboration plans with Rupert curator JL Murtaugh and the audience.

Olena Newkryta (based in Vienna) uses experimental documentary and visual essay formats to probe the embedded tensions between technocapitalism and resilience, with what—and who—image-making renders paradoxically invisible. An international jury, including the Rupert team, selected Newkryta from over 500 applications for the 2026 edition of Alterlife, a research and production programme co-organised with Sonic Acts (Amsterdam NL). She was a 2023-24 fellow at Jan van Eyck Academie (Maastricht NL). Recent institutional presentations include solo projects at Kunstraum Lakeside (Klangenfurt AT) and Warehouse Amsterdam (NL) with group exhibitions and screenings at CCA Temporary Gallery (Cologne DE), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna AT), Salzburger Kunstverein (Salzburg AT), Kunsthaus Graz (Graz AT), A Tale of A Tub (Rotterdam NL), and Lentos Kunstmuseum (Linz AT), amongst others.

Using sculpture, drawing, and sound, Juliana Lindenhofer (based in Vienna) operates as a ‘self-fashioner’: morphing systems and titles, negotiating non-nuclear family systems, where material infrastructure and decorative accessories hold the same value. Lindenhofer recently participated in projects at Belvedere 21 (Vienna AT), Leopold Museum (Vienna AT), Mutant Radio (Tbilisi GE), Sharp Projects (Copenhagen DK), Galerie Wonnerth Dejaco (Vienna AT), and Secession (Vienna AT). She was a 2023 resident at WIELS (Brussels BE).

Articulations, now in its tenth edition, is a cycle of seasonal public events highlighting the practices of Rupert’s international residents.
