Maithu Bùi
Maithu Bùi is a Berlin based artist and our current Rupert resident. Their practice investigates how shared histories of violence, science, and technology shape interpersonal relationships and experiences of intimacy. Working across video, installation, mixed media, and writing, Bùi explores how relationships are continually negotiated through spatial and situated encounters, with a particular interest in how resonance, speech, and agency emerge.
During their residency at Rupert, Maithu Bùi continues their long term research into unexploded ordnance and war waste through found and modified metal objects collected in Lithuania. By examining how metal shifts between the domestic, the industrial, and the destructive, they explore the enduring material afterlives of conflict and how traces of war continue to persist in the materials that surround us.
