Saule Suleimenova

Saule Suleimenova is a Kazakh artist and Rupert resident this season. Working across painting, photography, drawing, installation, and public art, her practice explores themes of collective memory, cultural identity, and historical experience. Alongside her artistic work, Saule organises educational, ecological, and social initiatives that strengthen communities and highlight the experiences of historically marginalised people.

During her residency at Rupert, Saule is creating new large-scale works from her long-running “Cellophane Painting” series, using collected discarded plastic bags, as well as new sculptures from the “Jeti Ana” (“Seven Mothers”) series. Her research at Rupert focuses on the children of the city, bringing together historical images of forced migration with scenes from contemporary life in Vilnius, while also exploring the caregivers who attend to our everyday needs but often remain unseen.
