Carina Erdmann

Carina Erdmann works on the intersection of game design, performance and philosophy. She researches role play and (un)worlding as a practice of social speculation. Entering through the (re)framing of a game, her research considers the critical use or abuse of game-like structures and their mechanics as metaphors. It attempts to develop game design as a method of collaborative critical inquiry that generates knowledge at the meeting point of the abstract and the concrete. Through the iterative creation and negotiation of a shared game space, it invites players to (de)construct tacit rules, rehearse inadaptation to a given framework and enact alternative agencies. Her research has unfolded within the PHD project ‘Distant Bodies and Accomplices’ at LUCA School of Arts; at the project space ‘au JUS’ collectively run through (role) play and on 0ct0p0s.net, a platform for Prefigurative Play.

Carina is invited to be one of AEP’25 tutors during the research trip to Belgium and in collaboration with MORPHO residency in Antwerp.
